As one of Cary’s most established and experienced periodontists, Dr. Paul Kazmer has been providing comprehensive periodontal, soft tissue and implant treatments in our area for nearly two decades.
A dental implant is a titanium root replacement. It replaces the root of the tooth that was either lost or is going to be removed.
The implant is placed where the root used to be. It’s going to function like a root, it’s going to function like a tooth. It’s the closest dental restoration to replacing what you have.
Unlike other options (like bridges or dentures), your implant will look, feel, and function like a healthy tooth. Dental implants are the closest restoration to what you already had.
If a tooth is missing, there are going to be short-term and long-term consequences.
Short-term, aesthetically, you can see this missing tooth. Also, you no longer have the tooth to function/chew with.
Long-term, after a tooth is removed, bone starts to go away, teeth start to shift and move, the bite changes. Aesthetically, those concerns last if the tooth is still missing.
Implants are a fantastic solution to replace missing teeth. One of the reasons why Dr. Kazmer gets so much joy out of implant dentistry is that he knows it’s a long-term solution. It’s not a quick fix, it’s not a patch.
A lot of this is about quality of life. You can survive without your teeth. But we enjoy eating, we enjoy socializing, we enjoy smiling. So the implants are just a fantastic way to fix this problem long-term.
